10/4/10 - League
Holt Utd 2 Hamworthy Recreation 0
Gaunts Common is always a tough place to visit and Holt were on an impressive run of results.
The game started with the visitors looking the brighter side and created an early headed chance for Sam Goodwin, who could not find the target. A few half chances fell Recs way but to no avail.
Holt capitalised on a defensive lapse and a former Rec player in Tom Willis put the hosts ahead. This spurred Holt on and they seemed to grow in stature and confidence. The rest of the first half was a fairly even affair.
The second period was anything but even as Holt came out more determined and with far more spirit and belief than Rec. The Holt defence held firm but had little to defend as the home side’s midfield totally dominated the game.
Few clear chances were created but a fine solo goal by Mariusz Iglewski condemned Rec to their first league defeat in 27 outings.
Holt totally deserved their victory and showed Recs players that they need to vastly improve their performance if the club are to clinch their first championship in 5 years.
