Hamworthy Recreation 6 Sturminster Newton Utd 1
Stur Newton came to Recs adopted home of Corfe Mullen on a day that few fixtures survived the foul weather; fortunately the rain held off for most of the match. Stur are fighting for their survival in the division and the home side were aware they needed to score early and not give their visitors any encouragement.
Rec passed and moved very well in the first period and the visitors could not cope. A fine individual goal by Mike Notley in between strikes from Rich Sands and skipper Ryan Lucas sent the home side into the break with a 3-0 advantage.
Notley pulled up with a groin injury early in the second half and was replaced by Dan Manuel whose first contribution was to strike a ball 30 yards past the Stur keeper to make it 4-0. Sam Goodwin, who had played very well and run tirelessly, scored the goal he deserved with a clinical strike.
What appeared to be an unavoidable ball to arm in the area gave Stur a penalty which they dispatched to get a consolation goal. There was still time for Manuel to get his second of the day to earn Rec a 6-1 victory.
