Ham Rec 4 Bridport Res. 1
With Magna Road still waterlogged, Rec played another home game at their adopted home of Corfe Mullen Rec to get this fixture out of the way. The club would like to express their appreciation to the DPL and Bridport for their understanding in the recent difficult weather conditions.
A bright start saw the home side take the game to Bridport and they took an early lead when skipper skipper Ryan Lucas struck from the 18 yard line after a bit of a melee from a corner; 1-0. This goal kept Lucas’s run of recent scoring form on track.
The Bees did not let their heads drop and battled, hassled and harried “the greens” but with little success. Mike Notley had a host of good chances that were either saved, off target or blocked - which made him a popular choice to be going home as batman!!
The team performance was not up to their usual standards even though chances came and went. The only real entertainment was a running verbal battle between Jamie Moores and his marker.  Neither being sylph like in appearance, the “size” insults given and received were plentiful.   This seemed to affect the Bridport defence who gave a blatant penalty at the next corner when Rich Sands was pushed in the back when in mid air. Lucas calmly slotted home to give us what should have been a 2-0 lead going into the break.
However, a defensive lapse allowed a Bridport forward to run clear through and take his chance  right on half time to change the dynamics of the game; 2-1.
What should have given Rec a kick up the rear failed to work as they got as sloppy as they have been this season in the second period. Credit must be given to the visitors who had something to cling onto and raised their game by a couple of gears to out pass, out battle and win every loose ball. Fortunately very few chances were created as the home defence dealt well with anything thrown at them. Chances at the other end fell to a luckless Notley.
With time ticking down Notley did eventually get on the score sheet; 3-1. There was still time for Dan Manuel to get in on the act after a Moores shot was well parried by the Bees keeper; 4-1. This gave the score line a more respectable look but the result did not tell the whole story or do justice to a Bridport team that gave their all.  A much needed improvement is required if Rec are to carry on their fine run of results.
