Hamworthy Rec 5 Sturminster Marshall 0
After a couple of weeks without a game due to the weather both teams were pleased to get a match under their belts. Using Corfe Mullen Rec enabled Ham Rec to host Stur Marshall when most games in the league were off, which gave the home side the chance to get another fixture ahead of their rivals and, importantly, the chance of another 3 points.
Rec started brightly and created a couple of half chances but it was Kevin Leonard in the home goal who had to make a good save to keep the scores level. That was the last real involvement in the game for Leonard as Rec got on top and made their dominance count with a goal in the 10th minute. A cross from Jamie Moores that fizzed across the 6 yard box was met by Skipper Ryan Lucas who took his seasons goal tally into double figures; 1-0.
The greens went from strength to strength and some of their passing and general play was a pleasure to watch. The woodwork kept the score down to one nil on 2 occasions and the visitors were glad to hear the half time whistle.
The 2nd half commenced with the “Green Army” firmly on top and taking the game to their opponents. It was only a matter of time before a 2nd goal was scored and the linesman ruled out what would have been an excellent goal by Mike Notley.
Moments later it was 2-0 when Dan Manuel calmly slotted the ball past the Stur keeper to put the game beyond our visitors. Moores was the next to get in on the goals, he was released down the left hand side before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the right hand corner of the visitor’s net; 3-0.
Several more opportunities came and went as Rec put on a commanding display in front of a sizeable crowd. Dan Blackburn got the 4th with a clever chip over a crowd of players following a goalmouth scramble; 4-0. The goals from midfield have really bolstered this season’s title challenge and taken some weight off the hard working forwards.
Notley got the goal he deserved with a tidy finish to round off the scoring and cap a great team performance; 5-0.
This was a confidence building display ahead of a tough trip to title contenders Weymouth next Saturday.
