12/12/09 - Bmth Senior Cup

AFC Highcliffe 4  Ham Rec Res. 2

Our worst performance of the season started badly with us not being able to string 2 passes together. A defensive error soon let Highcliffe in to score the 1st goal.  If it was not for young Tom in goal we could have already been 3 down at this stage to a side that had not won a game all season!!!

We managed to get level just before half time when AB was brought down in the box and Dixie converted the penalty.

The 2nd half was even worse than the 1st.  I didn't think it was possible for us to play any worse than we did in the 1st half but we managed it!!!!  We were sloppy all over the pitch and up front were missing chance after chance. If we had taken some of those chances I think we would have won the game comfortably but as it was, we were so bad it was only a matter of time before we conceded again and two farcical goals left us trailing 3-1 with 10 mins to go. Rob Hatch pulled us back into the game to make it 3-2 with 5 mins to go. Unfortunately we let Highcliffe go straight on the attack and they made it 4-2 almost straight away, ending our hopes of an equaliser and our interest in the cup for this year.

Ham Rec Res. 2  Sway 0
With our pitch still underwater the game was switched to Corfe Mullen Rec.  Phil Sweetland almost opened the scoring after 30 seconds but his 30 yards thunderbolt was well saved by the Sway keeper.  We were looking a bit leggy on the heavy pitch but soon got into our stride and started playing some good football.  Wayne was having a field day on the right and was terrorising the Sway left back. Sway had a few chances that were either dealt with by our back 3 or superbly saved by Tom.  Kane Andrews made a welcome return to the Rec for this game and with Andy and Phil behind him was running the show in midfield.  We eventually took the lead when Wayne went on a mazy run before calmly slotting the ball past the Sway keeper to put us 1 up going into the break.
The second half started in an amusing fashion when Tom (Paul Robinson) Rees let a harmless back pass bounce over his foot, Luckily he managed to get back and stop the ball just before it crossed the line, he then tried to clear the ball but instead kicked the post before scrambling the ball away for a corner, a mistake that correctly resulted in Tom donning the Banana man outfit.  Sway had a few chances but “Banana man” was saving everything that Sway threw at him. The game looked to be heading for a 1-0 win before a quick breakaway left Wayne one on one with the keeper, there would only be one outcome as Wayne went round the keeper to make it 2.0 and take us back to the top of the BPL.
