Ham Rec Res 7 St Marys 0
On a wet and windy day at Magna Road we had what on paper should have been an easy game for us. Our opponents in the Bournemouth Senior Cup, St Mary's, came into the game with zero points for the season.
We started the game well and should have been ahead early against a very poor side. The deadlock was broken when a poor kick from the St Mary's keeper fell to Dan “Goals” Manuel 45 yards out from goal. He casually lobbed the keeper with a Beckham like goal; 1-0. It wasn't long before we made it 2, “Goals” Manuel was again in the right place at the right time to calmly side foot our and his second of the afternoon.
We went on to have several chances to extend the lead but were unable to further progress and went into half time disappointed to only be 2 goals up.
The second half started as the 1st had finished, very scrappy!!!! We were sloppy all over the pitch and were definitely being brought down to St Mary's level.
The game sparked into life with 20 minutes to go, Charlie, Dawsey and Jamie O'Hara came on and we again took control of the game. An excellent finish from Gavin Haynes made it 3 before he added his second and our 4th shortly afterwards. Great headers from Dawsey and “Goals” Manuel made the score 6.0 before a Luke Dawe 20 yard screamer made it 7 just before the end.
The boys came off the pitch slightly disappointed by our performance ,which shows how far we have come when we are disappointed with a 7.0 victory. With Dorset Knob losing at the weekend we can go top of the league if we beat Westover on Saturday so we have a big couple of weeks coming up but I'm confident with the side we have we can beat Westover on Saturday and join the 1st team at the top of the league.
