On a hot day at Magna Road the boys were looking for revenge after losing to Verwood on the opening day of the season and with a strong side and bench we went into the game in a confident mood.
We were by far the better side and were passing Verwood off the pitch, however we were guilty of not taking our chances. Nick Plank finally broke the deadlock after 20 mins, a well worked corner from Wayne Hole and Dan Manuel was crossed into the box and Planky rose well at the back post and looped his header into the net to give us a 1-0 lead going into the break.
The second half started with us again on top, a well worked move down the right hand side almost saw us double our advantage but Luke Dawe hit the ball straight at the Verwood keeper who made a good save.
Soon after this we were denied a stone wall penalty when Dawsey was clean through on goal and was brought down by a combination of their chasing defender and goalkeeper - amazingly the referee gave a free kick against Dawsey. A knee injury picked up in the incident meant Dawsey played no further part and was replaced by Luke Crutcher with David Dick going up front with Dan.
The 2nd goal finally came when Wayne whipped in a great corner and Dan Man put us 2 up with a bullet header from 6 yards. We soon made it 3-0 when Dixie's long range effort somehow managed to elude the Verwood keeper and trickle into the net.
The game was effectively over at this point, however Verwood pushed 3 up front and went for it, Paul Maitland saved or collected everything that came his way. That was, however, until a looping cross was put in from the left. Maits was flapping and doing his best Superman impression but he got nowhere near the ball and the Verwood striker headed into an empty net, this earned Maits the Banana Man outfit although his best mate Phil Sweetland did his best to take it of him by skying a shot well over the bar from six yards. This was another good win for the lads.
