Ham Rec 3 Portland 0

Spurred on by comments made in the Dorset Echo by the Portland manager, Hamworthy were delighted to gain a comprehensive victory against their island visitors.

Rec got off to a bright start and soon got into their passing game.  It was only 6 minutes into the game when they earned their first corner of the day.  A great delivery by Sam Griffin was met by Jamie Moore who rose to head home, great start; 1-0.

The exchanges that followed were fairly even but Rich Sands and Dan Blackburn in the middle always seemed to win the ball back for Rec and set them on another attack.  Another fine Griffin ball played into the box was headed past the Portland keeper by Mike Notley only for the ball to hit the crossbar with the follow up being well blocked.  A minute later another Notley effort cannoned off the woodwork and was hacked away.

Kevin Leonard in the home goal was forced into a couple of saves just prior to half time to send Rec in one goal up.

Credit to Portland or a poor half time Rec talk. For whatever reason the home side get going in the second half and Portland got the upper hand.  Super Leonard ‘in the form of his life’ kept the visitors at bay on more than one occasion but the warnings did not did not kick start Rec’s half and their passing and retaining possession we not what they were accustomed to.  That said, Blackburn, Sands, Moores and Griffin were all carrying knocks.

The home team know, as always, that chances would come their way and on a break from a Portland attack some neat passing released Notley who went on a mazy dribble, calmly beating 2 men before stoking the ball home under pressure in the 84th minute; 2-0.   Notley repeated the run a couple of minutes later only to be upended in the box for a Rec penalty. Sands stepped up to smash home; 3-0.
Jamie heads the first
Rich makes it 3 from the spot
They seek him here, they seek him there; they seek Mike Notley everywhere
All to no avail - goal;  2-0
