Chickerell Utd 1 Ham Rec 3

The game at Chickerell was eagerly awaited by both sides with an unbeaten run potentially going to end for one of them.  Hamworthy entered the match full of confidence and with Jack’s music ringing around the dressing room spirits were high.
The visitor’s got off to a bright start creating some half chances and looking the more composed of the two sides.
What the linesman on the dugout side and the ref were doing only they know, but it ruffled all the players management and supporters of both teams.
12 minutes was the time it took for away Skipper Ryan Lucas to notch the opener to the now familiar shout of “GREEN ARMY” from Rec’s travelling supporters.  The remainder of the 1st half was a fairly even encounter with the visitors looking the more dangerous side and having more players with that bit of flair.
Half time came and the lads knew a massive 45 minutes lay ahead of them.
Within 30 seconds of kick off the “Chickens” keeper was picking the ball out of his net after a neat move resulted in “Sky TV star” Rich Sands blasting the ball home.  This inspired confidence to the players who for 20 mins were outstanding in every department but some poor finishing and great goal keeping kept the score at 2-0.
A goal out of nothing got Chickerell briefly back into the game but Jamie Moores restored the 2 goal advantage shortly afterwards and we could have had several more late on.

Westland Sports 3  Ham Rec 3
The visitor’s assistant manager Chris Hayes getting lost on the way to the game was part of an eventful afternoon in Yeovil (worse still he got lost on the way home too!).
The game had barely started when Mike Motley pounced to put Rec a goal ahead; 0-1. For a few minutes afterwards we looked lively but Westlands slowly got a foothold in the game.
Your reporter doesn’t often comment on officials but I felt the referee was poor and inconsistent in all that he did.  It was no surprise when, after a harsh free kick was taken, Kevin Leonard in the visitors goal was alleged to have fouled a Westlands forward in the box and a penalty awarded. The lads were furious as the linesman did not flag and the referee was 30 yards away.
The penalty was dispatched; 1-1.  Shortly after the penalty a free flowing move saw Jamie Moores tap home to give Rec the advantage; 1-2.
Leonard was then sent off for what the referee decided was deliberate handball outside the box on 35 minutes; Moores offered his services in goal (poacher turned gamekeeper if ever there was one!) and instantly made tremendous double saves.
The lads rallied and battled in the second half and for the most part were the better side. Westlands made it 2 all after some poor defending but our lead was restored with a Ryan Lucas penalty; 2-3. The 3 points looked like Recs until another lapse let Westlands equalise.
Manager Gareth Daniel told this reporter that “At half time we would have taken a point but after getting a late lead it felt disappointing not to return home with all three.”
