Stur Newton 1 Ham Rec 3
After Hamworthy’s midweek draw a win was imperative and they produced.
A hard working, young, lively Sturminster Newton team made the opening exchanges even but with Rec keeping the ball the better and looking the more likely team to score. Mike Notley had a couple of good chances but failed to take them.
It wasn’t to be and the blow came when a wing clearance from the Cherries keeper was lost in the sun by our defence and bounced over them for Kevin Leonard in the visitor’s goal to make an initial save but he was helpless as the ball was struck by him to put the hosts ahead; 1-0.
Recs’ heads did not drop and they placed more pressure on our opponents defence. The equaliser came when another burst forward from Ashley Boyt resulted in Rich Sands nodding Boyt’s cross into the path of Notley who slammed home; 1-1.
Rec could have done without half time but when the second half started they carried on from where they had left off. Some great passing and passages of play left their opponents chasing shadows. Jamie Moores opened his account with a tremendous shot on the run (see photos) and continued to torment the Cherries defence; 1-2.
The visitors’ confidence rose and another flowing move resulted in Rich Sands striking to make the score
