5/2/11 - League
Hamworthy Recreation 1 Merley Cobham Sports 0
Cobham (or Merley CS as they are now known) were the visitors to Magna Road on a very windy blustery day. Kane Daysh missed out through injury, and with Scott Bedward and Adam Marsh both away too Nick Plank and Rich Sands came in at the back and just one substitute on the bench.
Rec opted to kick into the strong gale in the first period. A bright start saw the Greens go close on several occasions with the previous weeks four goal hero Mark Dykes coming close twice.
Some good goalkeeping and bad finishing kept the home side at bay. Cobham looked to play their game in the right manner but did not look like being able to break the Rec defence down.
The home team worked hard to shut down their local rivals and limit shooting opportunities and set pieces which with a gale behind them could be dangerous.
Half time came with the scores level at 0-0.
Rec started brightly again looking to get a vital three points and knowing that they had struggled to beat their visitors on both matches last season. The thankful breakthrough came on the hour and it was for the league leaders. Jamie Moores found Mike Notley who, on a half turn, chipped the Cobham Gloveman with a class finish; 1-0.
Cobham rarely threatened against the fierce wind (although a question of handball in the home penalty area was waived away by the referee) and Rec stayed solid to see out a big one nil victory.
