5/5/11 - League
Merley Cobham Sports 0  Hamworthy Recreation 0
Cobham  were the final opponents in another successful campaign with the trophy presentation after the match.
In contrast to the Magna Road playing surface Cobham’s pitch had suffered with large amounts of games having been played on it and the  recent dry spell.  Bobbles a’plenty were on display which made it very hard for either team to play good football.
That aside, both teams pressed each other and worked hard where it would have been easy to go through the motions as is often the case in end of season fixtures. Cobham looked threatening but without creating any clear cut openings in the first half.
Mike Notley started the match as the leagues joint top scorer and had chances to put himself ahead but couldn't convert.
The second half was more open than the first and Notley had more chances to get some goals but it just wasn't happening for him.
Luke Dawe made an impression and continues to learn which is great for the club knowing the youth are developing.
Lee Madgewick was another player to enter proceedings and show what he is capable of.
Cobham had some chances themselves But Kevin Leonard kept them out or they missed the target.
0-0 Was the final score and a tale of missed chances for both sides with a draw being a fair result.
A subdued presentation was made to Rec who would have rather received their trophy on winning the title at home against Portland two weeks previous on the Saturday.
CHAMPIONS again which is a fantastic achievement. Watch this space as the club makes improvements in the summer to come back stronger and go for a third successive title.
