Hamworthy Recreation 1 Sturminster Newton Utd 1
Rec kicked off and it appeared Stur had come to get a 0-0 or snatch a goal as they lined up with one forward and at times nobody up front at all.
The home sides passing was not up to its usual standards but credit must go to the Stur players who chased and harried everything.
The days first of many wonder saves by the Stur gloveman came after a ball in from the left was met by a thundering Jamie Moores header. Everyone thought the ball was destined for the top corner until a majestic save was made. This was the pick of many fine saves the keeper made.
Rec were in firm control but time after time the final ball failed to meet its destination or sloppiness allowed the pass to be cut out.
The second period began and Rec did appear to have a slight bit of urgency about themselves. The games first goal arrived and it was a Dan Blackburn header; 1-0.
Although Rec settled after this chances went begging along with some good saves and defending.
Then the sting in the tail arrived.
A Stur player ran with the ball entering Rec’s half unchallenged. He let fly from 35 yards and, aided by a deflection, the ball nestled in Rec’s net; 1-1.
This was the final result and Rec’s inability to break down a stubborn defence had cost them dearly.
All credit to Stur for how well they defended.
