Hamworthy Recreation 3 Hamworthy Utd Res. 0
Following an opening day draw the Rec lads were keen to get three points on the board. Their visitors, Hamworthy United Reserves, held them to a 3-3 draw at the end of last season so a tough match was expected.
The greens started brightly and saw some chances thwarted by Lillington the Hammers keeper. Other chances came and went before the opening goal was scored.
A neat move saw the Lillington yet again make a good save but he could only parry the ball which fell into the path of Wayne Hole who stroked it home for his 3rd goal in two games; 1-0.
Rec were not playing to their full potential but were proving too strong for the hard working visitors who rarely attacked Kevin Leonard’s goal with any real scoring threat.
A second goal came before the break with Mike Notley the scorer after a cut back from Ashley Boyt, who returned to the side after missing Saturday’s trip to Portland; 2-0.
Half time saw the withdrawal of Adam Marsh from the side after he sustained an injury to his instep. Ryan Lucas was introduced and had an early chance to score from the penalty spot. A very well struck penalty hit the inside of the post and came out.
This gave the visitors a little lift but the Rec defence held strong with Kane Daysh proving a great signing and improving in every game he plays.
Several times a linesman’s flag denied midfield runners their chance to score.
A deserved third goal did come and it was Hole again. A clever lobbed ball from Notley over the hammers defence found Hole who smashed an unstoppable volley high into the net; 3-0.
Rec appeared to have more to offer but three points on the board and a clean sheet was a good result.
