After a freezing spell of weather which resulted in postponements it was nice to get a game played. The Rec lads had trained between Xmas and new year and kept themselves ticking over to compensate for the large volumes of food and alcohol consumed during this period.
The match kicked off with the Greens attacking up the slope. The Cranes showed little ambition by playing one upfront and instead tried to stifle their opponents. Half chances presented themselves but the home teams gloveman was more than a match and was largely responsible for keeping the scores level. Cranborne although not creating much did not look like a side propping up the table.
Rec’s breakthrough came after 25 minutes and Mike Notley was the player on target. Minutes later after a neat move Jamie Moores opened his account for 2011 to put the Greens 2-0 ahead.
Unfortunately Kevin Leonard in the visitor’s goal twisted his ankle and had to come off so Rich Sands donned the gloves and went between the posts. With half time approaching further chances could have been made had the passing and final deliveries been better.
The second half was minutes old when a burst from Ash Boyt saw him run 70 yards interchange passes and release his curling shot into the net to make the score 3-0.
A Scott Bedward OG gave the Cranes a glimmer of hope but this was quickly dashed as the floodgates opened.
Cranborne heads dropped and the remaining half hour was all Rec. The front pairing of Notley and Moores were on fire and scored 3 and 4 goals each in the match with a Lee Madgewick strike rounding the scoring off.
In this time further chances were missed, 2 penalties saved and again some rusty passing preventing the score being double figures.
A nice encouraging start to the new year. Final score 9-1.
